Great Thoughts

Most professing Christians today seem to believe that tolerance is the Godliest virtue of all. One must wonder why God even bothered to create Hell, because it seems hardly anyone will ever go there. The world is anything that cools my affection for Jesus Christ - John Wesley

When you get to the end of all the light you know and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly. -- Edward Teller

Faith is the highest passion in a human being. Many in every generation may not come that far, but none comes further.

Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservation. -- Elton Trueblood

No man is ever fully accepted until he has, first of all, been utterly rejected.

The heights reached by great men were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night. -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.-- Vince Lombardi

Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later. In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves...self-discipline with all of them came first.-- Harry S. Truman

No horse gets anywhere until he is harnessed. No stream or gas drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power until it is tunneled. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined.

Elections Are Over
Now Let’s Pray Something Gets Done

In the U.S. 2002 elections, the Republicans kept control of the House of Representatives and gained control of the Senate, giving Republican President George Bush a majority in Congress. It was a large victory that was not foreseen by most pollsters and political pundits. This should enable the President to clear the logjam that the Democrats had erected on the confirmation of judges and the passing of a other important measures. Homosexual activist groups bemoaned the loss of power by the Democrats, because the homosexual agenda is most consistently supported by that party. The Human Rights Campaign, for example, called it a "significant defeat" of their agenda. Homosexuals continued to make gains, though, in this election. Three openly homosexual members of Congress (Barney Frank in Mass., Jim Kolbe in Ariz., and Tammy Baldwin in Wis.) won re-election by landslides. Open homosexuals also won office in Providence, Rhode Island (the mayor); Arizona's House of Representatives; the New York Assembly; Maryland's General Assembly; the Massachusetts Senate. Voters in four states (Nevada, Arizona, South Dakota, and Ohio) rejected initiatives that would have legalized the use of marijuana or lessened the penalty for its possession. Gambling initiatives were approved in four states, Tennessee, North Dakota, Iowa, and Arizona. Tennessee was one of only three states that previously had no form of legalized gambling.

Iron Curtain Going Back Up

On October 31, the president of Belarus signed the most restrictive religion law in Europe. The Keston News Service notes: "The new law outlaws unregistered religious activity; requires compulsory prior censorship for all religious literature; bans foreign citizens from leading religious organizations; religious education is restricted to faiths that have ten registered communities, including at least one that had registration in 1982; and there is a ban on all but occasional, small religious meetings in private homes." Our church supports missionary Travis Decker who is a church planter in Belarus. We would ask all of our Trumpet readers to pray for Christians in this country as well as all former Soviet Block countries. The open door for evangelism and church planting that has been enjoyed for over a decade is beginning to go back up. If we plan on doing anything in these countries we need to be doing it now! For years I have believed that the God hating communists would eventually take over again. While they may not be called by the same labels certainly these are the same people. Pray for the work of God in this country and the countries that are surrounding.

Pastor and Church Members Go to Jail in GA. for Spanking

On October 17, a pastor and four of his church members were sentenced to jail and fined for spanking their children. The 70-year-old pastor, Arthur Allen Jr., leads the House of Prayer, an independent black congregation in Atlanta. The state child protective agency, in typical heavy-handed fashion, took 49 children away from church members' homes. Many months later, six of the children are still in state custody. The pastor was sentenced to 90 days in prison, 10 years probation, and a hefty $8,000 fine. The mother of the boys who were spanked while at church was sentenced to 20 days in prison, five years probation, and a $250 fine, and the father of the boys was sentenced to double of that. They must also complete a humanistic parenting class in order to keep their children. The judge forbade the pastor to "advise or participate in any way in the discipline" of anyone else's children. Is that not contrary to the freedom of religion and freedom of speech liberties promised under the U.S. Constitution? . Six more church members still face trial in this case.

Communing With the Dead

God strongly forbids psychic activity and attempts to communicate with the dead. (Deut. 18:9-12). Yet the airwaves are increasingly filled with the very things that God has condemned. I’m not talking about the phychic hotlines either. These shows include Crossing Over, featuring psychic readings by John Edward; The Dead Zone, about a man who wakes up after six years in a coma to find he has psychic powers; The Haunted, about a psychic detective; Six Feet Under, about the supposed living dead; and Pet Psychic, featuring alleged communication with dead animals! More programs on these themes are planned for later this year, including The Dream Team, which will feature interpretation of dreams, and Hollywood and Beyond, which will feature astrologers and psychics who will allegedly communicate with dead movie stars. Harry Potter is just the latest in a long stream of cinematic rubbish popularizing and trivializing the demonic.

Pornography is Rampant on the Internet!

A recent investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service has identified more than 75,000 people worldwide who were regularly accessing child pornography sites. Many of the sites are operated by "porn barons" in Russia and Indonesia. 7,200 names have been sent to authorities in England for follow-up, and a preliminary examination of just 200 of those found that 90 are police officers and others are childcare workers and teachers.

The Bible says in I Corinthians 15:33, “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” No one will fill their minds and hearts with this vile demonic perversion without becoming seriously warped. While the internet may be a great source and resource, it is perhaps the most dangerous tool the devil has. Child molestations, abductions, and assaults are now so common they don’t even make the news as they once did. Certainly the world is rapidly becoming addicted to their private pornography! But it does not stop with the world. Every week I’ll hear from a different pastor who is trying to help some church member who has gotten hooked to this filth. We had better wake up! The computer is potentially far more dangerous than the TV ever thought of being. If you have internet, you had better put some guards on it before the damage is done! Don’t leave your kids alone with it! Set up some rules! Your flesh is just as wicked as it always was!
