LET GOD BE MAGNIFIED

PSALM 70:4

In this Psalm is a simple statement by the Psalmist that should be resounded again and again until it echoes in our minds, in our hearts, and in our lives. "Let God Be Magnified."

Magnify: (a) extol; laud
(b) cause to be held in great esteem or respect
(c) to enlarge in fact or significance

A magnifying glass does not enlarge an item, but it allows us to see in more detail and clarity. "Let God be magnified." Let Him be seen in more detail and with more clarity. Let Him be held in greater esteem and respect. "Those who have tasted of Divine Grace should testify of Divine Goodness." (Dwight L. Moody). The purpose of every Bible believing church should be to magnify the Lord. "Unto Him be glory in the church..." (Eph 3:21). The purpose of every sincere Christian and follower of Jesus Christ should be to magnify the Lord. "He must increase but I must decrease" (John 3:30). The purpose of every Christian worker, Preacher, deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, usher, church officer should be to magnify the Lord. "Let God be magnified."

I. EXALTING GOD'S WORD

"For thou hast magnified thy Word above all thy name." (Ps 138:2). There is much doubt and questioning today concerning this book. However, God tells us what He thinks of it.

    1. Through God's Word is to know the way of salvation. "So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." (Rom. 10: 17). "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God which liveth and abideth forever." (I Peter 1: 13).

    2. Through God's Word is the means of cleansing. "Now ye are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you." (John 15:3). "Where withall shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to God's Word." (Psalm 119:9).

    3. Through God's Word there is comfort for the broken heart. "Let not your heart be troubled. . ." (John 14: 1). Yes, God's Word converts, cleanses and comforts, but it also comes to pass. Its prophecies, its promises, its predictions will come to pass. All the promises of joy and judgment will come to pass.

II. EXALTING GOD'S SON

"And fear fell on them all and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified." (Acts 19:17). There are a lot of people today using the name of Jesus who do not know the person Jesus. They are as powerless as these seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19:13-17.

III. EXALTED THROUGH TOTAL SURRENDER

"Now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." (Phil. 1:20 & 21). Paul was in prison. He was facing the possibility of death yet he writes this letter about joy. It matters not how, through life or death, just that Christ is magnified. What about you? Have you come to that point of surrender? Most of us have not!! We have not surrendered our Sunday evenings to Him or Wednesday evenings to Him, or tithes and offerings to Him. Oh, how little we have surrendered. Oh, how little we magnify God!!

IV. EXALTED WHEN JESUS IS RECEIVED

"And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my saviour." (Lk. 1:46 & 47). If you want to magnify the Lord, if you want to extol Him, if you want to have Him to be held in greater esteem, you must receive Jesus Christ as Saviour. The way to God is through Jesus and the way to magnify God is to magnify His Son. The Holy Spirit magnified God by magnifying Jesus (John 16:13-14).

Have you received Jesus as your Saviour? Will you do it now?
