“Sunday Morning Kissers”

The Psalmist tells us “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish from the way.” Clearly the word of God has something to say about kissing. Yet it would seem that a lot of the kissing going on is nothing like what is being talked about here in the Bible. In our Independent Baptist Churches we have a lot of what I call, Sunday morning kissers. They kiss our Lord with fake kisses that carry no commitment, kisses that carry no obligations. They kiss our Lord Sunday morning and then they do not come back Sunday night or Wednesday night. They kiss our Lord and then they don’t tithe. Luke tells about someone who kissed our Lord like this. His name was Judas. The Bible says, “He drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.” We know that the kiss Judas greeted our Lord with was a disloyal kiss. It was a Sunday morning kiss.

Jesus rebuked the Pharisee in Luke 7:45, He said, “Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.” The Pharisee didn’t kiss our Lord at all. The woman Jesus had forgiven couldn’t stop kissing our Lord. One loved the Lord, and one did not. Which one describes you? When I courted my wife, I gave her flowers, candy, jewelry, and took her out to eat, because I was in love. You Sunday morning kissers, you are not in love. The romance is out of your Christian life. Thirty-five years ago I kissed the Savior and that kiss led me away from the world, the flesh, the devil, and all the devil tried to give me. It is a new year. Let’s start it off by kissing the feet of the one who walked up Calvary’s Hill for us! If your heart is cold and the romance is gone, confess it. Quit giving those Sunday morning kisses.
