In Deference to the American Soldier

Our soldiers are heading to the Middle East in large part because of the outrage of our country over the terrorist attacks of September 11th. As we well remember, several thousand Americans died in the World Trade centers, and in the Pentagon as well as on the airplanes that were hijacked by Muslim terrorist. Now, in an effort to root out terrorism and avenge those deaths, many American soldiers, Marines, airmen, and sailors will die serving our country. Most Americans are not aware of the vast difference in how those who loose their lives will be compensated. If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million. If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable. Next, you get $1,750, (which won’t burry a dog in a box in a cemetery) for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you will get $833 a month until you remarry. There is also $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a stop. Ironically, some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185 million to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough. Now our military is once again being called up in mass for combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing. Compare this to our own U.S. Congress who just voted themselves a raise, and many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month. If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, while the very people who put them in harm's way receive a pension of $15,000 per month. It’s not right. Without a strong military we have nothing. This needs to change. We need to speak up. Its’ time to honor those who put their lives on the line for our freedom. Calvin Coolidge said, "The nation which forgets it's defenders, will be itself forgotten." — Trumpet Editor

Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities.. Because it is the quality which guarantees all others. Winston Churchhill

Courage is doing what your’re afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you are scared.” Eddie Rickenbacker

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Leadership is the expression of courage that compels people to do the right thing.

Fear not that your life will come to an end but that it will never have a beginning. John Newman

'Tis nothing for a man to hold up his head in a calm; but to maintain his post when all others have quitted their ground and there to stand upright when other men are beaten down is divine. Lucius Annaeus Seneca (C. 4 B.C.-A.D. 65)

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. Theodore Roosevelt

Let’s Remember the Muslim

The United States Postal Service is remembering and honoring the Muslim holiday season, (called Rahmadan) with a commemorative first class holiday postage stamp. While the Post office remembers the Muslim holy month I thought of several other Muslim centered events for the rest of us to remember.

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of PanAm Flight 103. REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993. REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon. REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military Barracks in Saudi Arabia. REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa. REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE. REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on the Pentagon on 9/11/01. Oh, and Remember the Baptist medical missionaries killed by Muslim’s in Yemen over the holidays. Let’s REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks. As the Muslim holy month is remembered let’s remember the words of the Koran, “When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. If they repent and take to prayer and render the alms levy, allow them to go their way. Allah is forgiving and merciful.” Sura 9:5 at-Taubah 9:5. I don’t know about you but I won’t be getting the Muslim commemorative stamp. --Trumpet Editor.
