Taliban Baptist

Recently I saw a report from a preacher who attended a Baptist Bible Fellowship (BBF) meeting in Salem, New Hampshire. In his report he noted that many of the speakers at this meeting mentioned "new winds" that are blowing among Fundamental Baptists. These same preachers warned of those who worry about such things as the way women dress, long hair on men, rock music, and contemporary praise. Those few who still preach against such things (and they are few indeed) were labeled by these as "Taliban Baptists."

When I read this report, I wondered if that bunch of preachers would have the guts to call Paul a Taliban Baptist? Remember, Paul wrote in I Corinthians 11:14-15 that long hair on men is a shame and that long hair on women is a glory. Paul wrote, I Timothy 2:9, “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel”.

Yes, there are new winds blowing among fundamental Baptists. They are the strong winds of compromise and worldliness. These winds are emanating from the hot air which blows out of the mouths of preachers who have traded the good fight of faith for an easy, non–confrontational, popular ministry.

Let’s face it, preachers who name sin are tired of being labeled legalist and now Taliban Baptist. (What kind of a preacher would use this type manipulation to undermine personal holiness?) As a result, sin is on the rise and separation is becoming a relic of the past.

I say, if there is such is a thing as a Taliban Baptist, it must be the group that attacks those who are willing to separate from worldliness and compromise. I would not want to be one of these compromisers when it comes time to face God!
