Psalms 88:3 gives the testimony of David; he writes, "For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave." If there is one constant in a very changing hour it is troubles. Everyone is having them.
It brings a chuckle to my soul sometimes when I call a brother to share some of my troubles and before I can get them out I find that they have more troubles than I do. As I fellowship with good men of God everywhere, again and again I find the same thing; everyone is going through a lot of troubles. As is so often the case, it’s far easier to point out the problems than to find solutions for them. Are you having troubles?
Then this article is for you.
Some troubles are self inflicted, listen to Proverbs 21:23 "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles." God help us to keep our mouth shut more often! Proverbs 10:19 says "In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise." Often leaders feel that they need to carry every conversation.
Unfortunately, a lot of talking gets us in a lot troubles. My Pastor has said to me on several occasions, "everything you say will be used against you!" Let’s guard ourselves from saying too much.
Most troubles are people troubles. A deacon has quit, and has rocked the boat real hard! A Sunday School teacher has thrown in the towel and wants to take the class with them. Can we eliminate people troubles? I
really don’t think that is possible. The Lord spoke to the issue by telling the disciples in Luke 17:1, "Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come…" The Lord’s response was to simply
tell the disciples that troubles are coming. Perhaps that is to keep us from taking the blame for something that is out of our control.
