In recent days our attention and concern has been captured by the shootings that have taken place in schools across America. What is the cause for these shootings? What is the cure?
First, I think you need to see this problem in light of the Public Schools. They are a mess. They are run by secular humanists that for over two generations have taught public school students that they are descendants of animals. Now it looks like they are right, and the institution itself isn't fit for a dog. Nine hundred teachers and over 2,000 students are threatened and nearly 40 teachers are physically attacked on school grounds every hour of each school day each year, according to Keith Geiger, president of the National Education Association. Putting your children in the public school system is a mistake. On June 17, 1963, in Abington vs. Schempp, the Supreme Court removed BIBLE readings from public education. No system can kick God out and get away with it. God will judge and He is. Psalms 9:17 says, "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God." (Is. 3:4,12.)
What can the poor teachers and students do to protect themselves from the terrorist attacks like the one in Littleton, Colorado? In Israel, teachers and parents who serve as school aides go armed at all times on school grounds with semi-automatic weapons. Since this policy was put into effect, terrorist attacks in Israeli schools have dropped to zero. The only recent exception was the tragic case of a group of school children that were murdered by an Arab gunman as they visited the "Zone of Peace" on the Jordanian border. The Jordanians specifically requested that the Israeli teachers and chaperones leave their weapons behind ... which they did. American schools are "gun free zones". Therefore, our schools make ideal targets for murderous kids or adults who already violate dozens of laws when they undertake such actions. What is the solution our government is posing? More laws! Most of the guns used in incidents like these are stolen; I suggest they pass a law against stealing. Last week pipe bombs were used so we need a law that says you have to be a certified plumber to buy or hold pipe fittings. We also need to make sure that no one can own both pipe fittings and nails, and we should pass a law that requires all plumbers to have a FBI background check before they can be certified.
Second, we need to see this problem in light of modern parenting. In our culture we are turning our responsibility for raising our children over to everyone else. The TV, the daycare, grandma, the babysitter, the video game, the little league coach, the public school teacher or the Christian school teacher, the guidance counselor, the Youth Pastor, the Pastor; God didn't call these to raise your kids! What about taking responsibility for our own children? You had them -- you raise them. Quit working so much and spend some time with them. Quit pushing them off on someone else. Quit crying that there isn't any bible reading or prayer in the public schools if you have none at home. God doesn't give babies to babies, but a lot of parents are acting like babies. Parents need to stay married! If our children are sorry and haven't any discipline or character, we need to quit looking for someone to blame or sue, and look in the mirror at the real problem!
What's the prognosis? If we don't change, a lot more of the same shootings, godlessness, and violence. God help us.
