51st Annual Trumpet Meeting Report

On Monday, February 3rd, 2003, Faith Baptist Church in Laurens hosted the 51st anniversary Trumpet meeting. The attendance was great. The singing was wonderful. The preaching was some of the best I’ve ever heard. Bob Kelly preached, “Don’t Quit,” Mike Edwards preached on “Being a Servant,” Mike Allison preached on “Who is the Lord,” Dennis Carter preached, “Don’t count on Me,” and Dr. Gomez preached on “Valley’s Full of Ditches,” Dr. Kidd did not preach Monday night as we had planned but did preach Sunday on “Jesus, If you Love me, why does it hurt so bad,” and a powerful message entitled, “God is Still on His Throne.” Several of the preachers commented to me on the great liberty and the sweet spirit of the meeting. The Burns Trio sang and blessed the hearts of everyone in attendance. In addition, a tremendous offering was received for the expenses of the meeting and for the cost of printing the Trumpet. If you were not able to attend the meeting but would like to get a copy of all the messages, please mail us your request with your address and send an offering of $20.00, and we will mail the tape set with all the messages. Each year the tape money is used to give the late Dr. John Waters’s widow a love offering. Next year’s meeting is scheduled for February 6th, 2004. , Mark this date on your calendar and plan now to attend. Editor

Holy Boldness

Holy boldness honors the gospel. In the olden times, when Oriental despots had things pretty much their own way, they expected all ambassadors from the West to lay their mouths in the dust if permitted to appear before his Celestial Brightness, the Brother of the Sun and the Cousin of the Moon. Money- loving traders agreed to all this and ate dust as readily as reptiles, but when England sent her ambassadors abroad, the daring islanders stood bolt upright. They were told that they could not be indulged with a vision of the Brother of the Sun and the Cousin of the Moon without going down on their hands and knees. "Very well," said the Englishmen, "we will dispense with the luxury. But tell his Celestial Splendor that it is very likely that his Serenity will hear our cannon at his palace gates before long, and that their booming is not quite so harmless as the cooing of his Sublimity's doves." The ambassadors of the British Crown were no cringing petitioners; the British empire rose in the respect of the Oriental nations.

Our cowardice has subjected the gospel to contempt. Jesus was humble, and his servants must not be proud, but Jesus was never mean or cowardly, nor must his servants be. There was no braver man than Christ. He could stoop to save a soul, but he would stoop to nothing by which his character might be compromised, or truth and righteousness insulted. To preach the gospel boldly is to deliver it as such a message ought to be delivered. Blush to preach of a dying Savior? Apologize for talking about the Son of God condescending to be made man, that he might redeem us from all iniquity? Never! Oh, by the grace of God let us purpose with Paul "to be yet more bold," that the gospel may be yet more fully preached throughout all ranks of mankind. -- Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Great Thoughts

Commenting on Criticism

“If I were to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know—the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right won’t make any difference.” -- Abraham Lincoln

“The fire of strife is a terrible evil when it breaks out in a church. Where converts were multiplied, and God was glorified, jealousy and envy do the devil’s work most effectually. Woe unto those by whom offences come”. -- C. H. Spurgeon

"A wishbone will never replace a backbone."

"The only one who gets away with playing both ends against the middle is an accordian player, and you know how popular they are."

"Most of the people I know are full of fried food and excuses." -- Craig Cearns

Only in America

Bill Clinton is getting $12,000,000 for his memoirs. Hillary Clinton got $8,000,000 for her memoirs. That is $20,000,000 for memoirs from two people who for the eight years that they were in Washington, repeatedly testified under oath, that they could not remember anything.

These are the reports from the one night, (Friday or Saturday), Wild Game Supper outreaches conducted just this year, (Jan.-Feb. 2003) by Evangelist Chuck Cofty. Brother Cofty has been putting these on in local churches for years and seeing men saved in great numbers. Many Trumpet readers know Brother Cofty well but for those who don't, Brother Cofty is a retired Marine who has been in full-time evangelism for over sixteen years. He has pastored two Independent Baptist Churches and preached in hundreds of churches around the country. Bro. Cofty makes his home in Charlotte, NC.

In our church and in our area we have a great number of men who love to hunt and fish and some who just love the outdoors. We have a desire to reach these men, with this goal in mind, next year in February we are planning on conducting our first annual Wild Game Supper. If you presently do not have such an outreach you may want to consider it. Brother Cofty would be happy to assist you in any way possible. He can be reached by email at SHARPERSWORD@aol.com; at his web site at www.cometocalvary.org/chuckcofty or by telephone at 704-543-7986. -- Trumpet Editor

Bearing Precious Seed
National Bible Publishing Month

Every Year, Bearing Precious Seed asks churches to take a month during the first part of the year and designate it as National Bible Publishing Month, in order to raise funds to publish and distribute Bibles worldwide to those who desperately need them. Many do this in February and others in March or April. We have requests from our fundamental, Independent Baptist missionaries and national pastors around the world for over 70 million Scriptures. The need for the "written" Word of God is heartbreaking, staggering! This month alone, I have had letters from missionaries and national pastors in New Guinea asking for 50,000 Bibles for their faithful local church members. One pastor stated, "I have 700 members who attend church every time the doors are open, but none of them have a Bible. We are all begging you to help us!" Can you imagine being a Christian and not having a Bible to read and study? This is the case in many parts of the world, especially in Third World Countries. If Bibles are available, they can not afford to buy them. Most of the time, if anything is available, it is a translation that attacks the deity of Christ, the blood, the virgin birth, the resurrection, and doctrines we hold dear and are necessary for salvation. They need the "pure" Word of God. Something equivalent to our KJV.

Many pastors talk about their love for the Word of God, yet their churches are making no effort to make the publishing and distribution of the Scriptures a "MAJOR" and not a "minor" part of their missionary program. Jesus said, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matt. 4:4) I believe God is going to hold us accountable for getting His "written" Word to the world. This is why I am in over 100 churches every year pleading with pastors and churches to help. God blesses those who honor His Word. It is not the job of the liberals and modernists in the Bible Societies, the Bible publishers in the business world, or any other para-church ministry to get out the Scriptures. It is the job of the local church! Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it!

Initially, I am trying to get 250 pastors to lead their churches to give a minimum of $1,000.00 every year during February, March, or April. This will allow us to make a large paper buy at the beginning of the year, so we can purchase rolls of paper at 1/3 to 1/4 of the normal cost. The more funds we raise, the cheaper the large rolls of paper for our huge press. This means we can publish three or four times more Scriptures than normal, and makes us good stewards of the funds God sends in. More people will have a Bible to cherish.

PLEASE HELP! We call the National Bible Publishing Month campaign "Carry the Light." If you need them, we have "Carry the Light" auditorium posters, bulletin shells, take home brochures, offering envelopes, and coin folders to assist you during your month long campaign to raise the funds to publish God's precious Word. Call our office at (513) 575-1706, extension 700 to order these free promotional materials. All checks for National Bible Publishing Month would be made out to "Bearing Precious Seed" and designated "NBPM" at the bottom of the check. Checks would be mailed to the following address: Attention: Bob Ford, Bearing Precious Seed, 1369 Woodville Pike, Milford, OH 45150. Thank you for caring for others.

Bob Ford, Missionary—Bearing Precious Seed

What Would You Do?

What would you do? It is dark and you are walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children after going out for a nice dinner. Suddenly, a very large, unshaven, 6ft 5in 275lb man dressed in black with a huge knife comes around the corner and runs at you screaming obscenities. You draw your trusty .45 loaded with eight 230 grain hollow point bullets and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

What do you do?

Liberal/California Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question. Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring him to attack? Is it still possible for us to run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Is it possible he'd be happy with killing just me? Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I need to discuss this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion.

Conservative Answer: BANG!

Red Blooded Southern American Answer: BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!.... (sounds of magazine being ejected, a loaded one inserted and the slide slamming forward into battery.)

Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?"

Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..." BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Daughter: "Nice group Daddy!"
