EDIFICATION: God only knows how much stress men of God have on them. Getting him away from the church office and the cares of the ministry could be a great source of refreshing your Pastor. Hunting not only challenges the body (a few preachers just need the exercise), but it also stimulates the mind. Most men of God are so busy with so many things a good morning out hunting is just what they need to clear their head and put things in perspective. Of course it’s important that we remember that God is omnipresent. Jeremiah 23:24…”Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.” I am reminded of a story I once heard about a hunter and his misfortune with his tree-climber. After struggling to reach mid-way up a tall pine, the hunter slipped and within seconds was lying painfully on the ground below. Looking around he saw that no one had seen his distress but a small beady-eyed lizard that was clinging to a nearby tree. Out of control, the hunter had a few choice words for this unknowingly helpless creature. Grumbling under his breath, the pain-ridden hunter made it back to his truck and drove slowly home. Help your preacher as much as you can; you want his hunting trips to bring him closer to the Lord, not farther away.
ENLIGHTENMENT: The Bible says in I Timothy 2:8, “I will therefore that men pray every where...”, you’ll not find a better place to pray than out in nature. When you take your preacher hunting, you won’t have to tell him how to use the time when the deer aren’t moving, prayer time with the Lord will come natural. He’ll benefit from it, your Church will benefit from it, and even the lost will benefit from it. Prayer time is amazing when sitting out in nature that God has so beautifully made for us to enjoy!
EVANGELIZATION: Where we live a lot of men hunt. Taking your preacher hunting exposes him to a lot of people. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out that hunting can be an excellent opportunity for sharing Christ with other hunters.
