DR. JOHN WATERS

Reprinted Article from May 1955
Hudson Taylor and the Power of the Spirit

Hudson Taylor was a missionary to China, and labored for years before he became a victorious and happy Christian. He lacked joy in service, and he felt keenly his spiritual poverty. He could not seem to overcome the sinful longings of his heart. He struggled, agonized, read the Bible more, but all seemed in vain. He continued with not much rest of soul, toiling, burdened, with much anxiety.

Then came the change. He knew Christ was sufficient, but he didn’t know how to apprehend. When his agony of soul was at its height, a letter from a victorious friend opened his eyes. It was faith, not striving after faith, but resting on the Faithful One. Also, he saw the ONENESS of the believer with Christ, that he was a member, part of, His body, His flesh and His bone.

Now, a new light shone forth from his life, and a new peace possessed him. Troubles didn’t worry him as before. He cast everything on God in a new way and gave more time to prayer. The weight and strain of his work was all gone. Happiness and joy replaced defeat. The sweetest part was rest and he was no longer anxious about anything. He also realized in a fresh way that he was dead to sin as God had reckoned him so. Thus, from this humble servant, the living waters began to flow.

ANTI-SEMITE HILLARY COURTS JEWISH VOTE

"As she continues her bid for the New York State Senate seat, United States First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton has taken a new position on Israel's right to Jerusalem as its 'eternal and indivisible capital of Israel.' She went on to say that Jerusalem is the 'eternal and indivisible capital of Israel' and it is her belief that the US embassy in the Jewish State should be located in its capital, Jerusalem. . . . Mrs. Clinton was responding to a request from the prominent US Jewish leader, who was interested in knowing her position on Israel, Jerusalem and the Middle East conflict.

Hillary Clinton's new behavior prompted Bill Safire to describe her as a 'pathological liar.' Her letter was a transparent bid for Jewish votes in her newly adopted state of New York. Not surprisingly, the Clinton Administration immediately sought to distance itself from Hillary's remarks. Hillary is well-known for her views which are opposite to her current statements:

* During the 1980s - served on the board of the New World Foundation. Most contributions went to the PLO. * February 1996 - hosted a reception at the White House for leaders of organizations with known ties to and/or who have acted as apologists for Hamas terrorists. * January 29, 1998 - hosted reception to mark the Muslim day when the Ramadan fast is broken. Outside organizers included defender of militant Islamic fundamentalism. * May 1998 - used a television interview broadcast by the Voice of America to declare her support for the creation of a Palestinian state. Hillary Clinton's record is not that of an individual committed to a 'strong and secure Israel.'" (Israel Wire, July 11, 1999)

Editorial Up-Date
From Evangelist Ernest Lundy

Has America Passed the Point of No Return?

A lot has happened in America over the last one hundred years. People are able to fly around the world. Communication with one another is just a phone call or a computer e-mail away. Technology abounds, but where is American spiritually? Are we stepping up, or are we stepping down in the year 2000? Here are some things that indicate the spiritual condition of our nation.

1. A disregard for human life. We now have abortion on demand. Killings, murders, and other violent crimes against humanity are on the rise; and those committing the crimes receive only a “slap on the wrist” as punishment, while seeking to blame anything and anyone else as to why the crime was committed.

2. A disregard for morality. From our nation’s highest office and our highest court, the homosexual life-style has been thrust upon all of us as an “alternative”. If we take a Biblical stand against it,we are labeled as “haters”. Everywhere there are couples living in open adultery, and this, too, has become the accepted life style.

3. A disregard for right or wrong. This has become the age of situation ethics. If it feels good, do it!

4. Everything and everyone is tolerated in America except those who say God’s Word is the final authority. Christians are fast becoming labeled as intolerant, narrow-minded, haters of others.

5. There is an insatiable desire for pleasure. Sports figures and the Hollywood crowd are the most admired, highest paid, and most revered people in America. No matter how they live or what they do, it’s “okay” because of who they are.

6. There is apathy among believers. The church visitation crowd on Tuesday or Thursday evening is the smallest group of all. Some churches have given up on it because no one will participate.

7. The rise of false religions and churches that strive to entertain, rather than preach the Word.

8. An unwillingness to acknowledge God in our society. God is not allowed in our schools, our businesses, our courts. No one hardly dares mention His name in a public meeting or anywhere else. Can anyone remember when church was the only place open on Sunday?

9. A leftist media, slanting the truth. Our current-day, liberal media control what is being reported and how it is being reported.

10. The re-defining of church and state relationship. When our forefathers established the separation of church and state, their intentions were to keep the government out of the affairs of the church, but never to keep God out of the affairs of the government.

11. The acceptance of astrological signs. When you read your horoscope every day, you open yourself up to the wiles of Satan and demoniac activity.

12. Satanic influence through music. It is bad enough that our nation is plagued and infiltrated by Satanic rock-culture music, filled with sexual, anti- God, murderous, rebellious words. The sad thing is that you can’t tell the difference in some churches between the world’s music and theirs.

Has America had it? These are possible indicators to America’s fall. Study history and see what happened to Israel, Judah, the Roman Empire, the Greek Empire, even the once- strong British Empire. We need to know where God stands on the issues. In Jeremiah 11:14, God instructed Jeremiah, “Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.” The people of Judah had gone too far! In Jeremiah 14:11, God said, “Pray not for this people for their good.” We do pray that our nation has not gone past the point of no return. Even if our nation has not gone, God is still calling out a people for His name. What shall we do?

    1. Call for repentance in our churches.
    2. Do what we can where we are.
    3. Be ready for whatever comes by being obedient.

What should we do? Do like the King of Nineveh: “For word came unto the Kind of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything: let them not feed nor drink water: But let every man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?” (Jonah 3:6-9) AMEN!!

Resolution submitted and unanimously adopted by the S.C.I.B.F. on July 12, 1999.

We, the Officers and Supporters of the South Carolina Independent Baptist Fellowship unanimously go on record this day, July 12, 1999, as being openly opposed to the anti-God, anti-Traditional Family Values and anti-Moral Decency which is, and will be propagated by Black Sabbath at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, S. C. on Sunday, August 8, 1999.

We agree that Black Sabbath is a heavy metal, rock music group which has been on the cutting edge of active Satanism and Luciferian Witchcraft. Since the late sixties, they have persistently set forth to promote: thrill killing, rape, murder, cannibalism, sodomy, homosexuality, death, suicide and every sordid sort of blasphemy imaginable to man.

Therefore, we put on the whole armour of our God, pray for His guidance and proudly stand up boldly in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We stand against the perverted poison of this group, and others who will be in concert along-side them; this will spew forth on our fair community.

We earnestly submit ourselves to our God, Resist the Devil and his agents, and urgently make an appeal to the Greenville City Council and Greenville County Council members. Exercise your influence to put a stop to this atrocious deed, and any other of similar nature in the days ahead, prior to the coming of Christ.

We plead with every morally decent individual who still adheres to Traditional Family Values to lift up the shield of faith, set forth the Word of God, and seize this opportunity to especially stand in defense of our precious children against the wiles of the Wicked One.

Lovingly submitted by Dr. Stan Craig, Pastor of Choice Hills Baptist Church.

IRANIAN AMBASSADOR TO SYRIA:

“WE WANT ALL OF PALESTINE”

"Hussein Sheik Al-Islam, the Iranian Ambassador to Damascus, stated to the London-based Arab daily Al-Hayat on July 9, 1999, that Iran supports Syria in its attempts to renew peace negotiations in order to retrieve the occupied Golan. The Iranian Ambassador noted that Israel would be forced to withdraw because of its casualties in Southern Lebanon, due to Hizbullah's operations. He further emphasized that Hizbullah would continue its operation after the renewal of the negotiations.

Ambassador Sheik Al-Islam forecasted that 'Israel would cease to exist within fifty years' and that the conflict between the Hebrew State and the Arab countries, 'would not come to an end with the signing of peace agreements because we want all of Palestine and Jerusalem.'

The Ambassador was asked about Iran's position regarding the latest 'signals' between Damascus and Tel Aviv of 'renewing negotiation as soon as possible.' His answer was: 'We support Syria in retrieving its rights and the Golan Heights, or any occupied Arab land. Furthermore, we and the Syrians want more than that; we want the retrieval of all of Palestine and Jerusalem.' He said he expected that the parties would resume negotiations 'soon' and that there would be 'great achievements before the American President engages in the 2000 elections, because Clinton will exercise pressure to reach a peace agreement.'

Answering another question, the Iranian Ambassador said, 'the positive Syrian signals aim, among other things, at evading American pressure, due to the momentum that Barak brought with him, as a so-called man of peace.'

He also stated that Israeli withdrawal from Southern Lebanon means an admission of two defeats: the first, is a military defeat, caused by the operations of the Islamic Resistance [i.e. Hizbullah]; the second, it is an admission of a political defeat, because Israel is forced to withdraw from the Golan as a result of its casualties in Southern Lebanon.

Regarding the future of Hizbullah after the signing of peace agreements, the Iranian Ambassador to Syria said that Hizbullah, 'has several roles: military, political, and security. Achieving a peace settlement - rather than peace - means that Hizbullah would continue to play a political role in Lebanon. More important than that, Hizbullah will activate its security and intelligence capabilities, otherwise, why would its leadership expend all of its efforts and resources to increase these capabilities?'

Ambassador Sheik Al-Islam was asked whether Hizbullah would stop its operations according to Barak's request 'to build up trust for withdrawal from South Lebanon.' His answer was: 'the relevant parties--Syria, Lebanon, and Iran--are smarter and to experienced to do that, because continuing the operations will pressure Israel to withdraw. I expect the operations to continue after the resumption of the peace talks.'"
